Skyscanner launches new train booking feature

Skyscanner

TravelTech giant Skyscanner has expanded its offering to include a train booking feature.

The Edinburgh-based company, bought by Ctrip in December 2016 for £1.4bn, has partnered with Trip.com, which will supply the data to enable Skyscanner’s iOS app users to search for cheap train tickets.

Bryan Dove, CTO at Skyscanner, said: “Being part of the Ctrip group allows us to take advantage of elements of Ctrip’s technology and experience and bring that value to Skyscanner’s travellers.

“The launch of our train booking product is one such example. Our focus has always been on making travel as easy as possible and our new train feature will do just that, with the benefit of no booking fees,” he added.

Skyscanner says its app has been downloaded more than 70 million times all over the globe and is seeking to make the train booking feature available to Android customers “shortly”.

Founded in 2003, Skyscanner recently acquired London-based startup Twizoo and has raised $197.2m to date.

Investors in the company include Sequoia Capital, Baillie Gifford and Scottish Equity Partners (SEP).
