Skyscanner acquires London-based startup Twizoo

Twizoo

UK tech unicorn Skyscanner has acquired  Twizoo, a London-based user generated content business.

As a result of the deal, Twizoo’s team of six are now based at Skyscanner’s office in London.

Skyscanner will seek to use Twizoo’s social content integrations to bolster hotel reviews and recommendations.

Commenting on the deal, Bryan Dove, chief technology officer, said: “Skyscanner aims to serve all traveller needs, from inspiration through to planning and booking. Twizoo’s technology surfaces customer opinions from social media, providing real value to traveller decision making. We’re delighted to have the highly talented Twizoo team join us.”

Today’s news comes after Skyscanner said last week that it would launch in-trip content through its parent company’s acquisition of Trip.com.

Madeline Parra, CEO and co-founder of Twizoo, also commented on the acquisition: “Skyscanner is built by travellers, for travellers. Their emphasis on authenticity and transparency reflect Twizoo’s own values.

“Travel is inherently social and we’re excited to work with the Skyscanner team to integrate our technology into their world-class travel search products, giving travellers invaluable insight through user generated content shared on social media.”

Twizoo was backed by EC1 Capital, Downing Ventures and Jensons EIS Fund.

The terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.
