Apple CEO Tim Cook has visited the iPhone maker’s new London headquarters at Battersea Power Station and reiterated the company’s commitment to the UK capital.
Cook, visiting the UK for the first time since the pandemic, said: “Apple has been part of the London community for more than 40 years, and we’re thrilled to soon bring some of our teams together in the historic Battersea Power Station.”
Apple’s new London HQ was first announced in 2016. It sits in the £9bn Battersea Power redevelopment project, which will include retail and residential spaces.
Battersea Power Station, located on London’s South Bank, had been derelict for decades after it ceased becoming an electricity generator in the 1980s.
The site will officially reopen to the public on 14 October this year. Cook said that Apple will be moving into its new HQ due to open “early next year”.
Apple will be the main occupier of the development, with the US tech giant taking more than 500,000 sq ft of office space.
Cook is expected to stay in London for several days. In an interview with the BBC, Cook said there are “no good excuses” for the tech sector not employing more women and that there are still “not enough women at the table at the world’s biggest tech firms.
