Amsterdam-headquartered travel firm Booking.com has moved into a new 175,000 sq ft office in Manchester that will home over 1,300 employees.

Based in Enterprise City, it will serve as Booking.com’s headquarters for its trips branch and become the business’ biggest international office. Founded in 1996, the travel company has other offices in Stockholm, Istanbul, Singapore, Las Condes and Leon.

Matthias Schmid, SVP, trips, Booking.com, said: “We’ve been in Manchester for almost 20 years and we recognise the role the city and its tech ecosystem have to play in shaping that experience.”

Booking.com’s £80m Manchester site will home teams of software developers working on products including transport and insurance.

“In order to lead that journey, we need the support of industry-leading software engineers, commercial and corporate specialists along with a diverse management team, which means continuously investing not only in modern, inclusive workspaces, but also the benefits we offer as an employer,” added Schmid.

The hotel, flights, transport and attractions comparison site is the latest tech company to establish a presence in Manchester. Companies that already reside in the northern city include THG, BankiFi and Biorelate.

Last week, Starling Bank announced it plans to open a new office in Manchester that will generate up to 1,000 jobs in the area in the first half of next year. The fintech company is currently choosing between a shortlist of locations.
