The UK Government’s Cabinet Minister and Paymaster General, Matt Hancock, has outlined plans for the Government Digital Service (GDS) to mentor school pupils into the technology and engineering careers.
Speaking to Croydon Tech City, the Minister said GDS will seek to equip local school pupils with the skills they require to launch their own tech startup.
Hancock said: “The Croydon Tech scene is really going full throttle. Tech City is reaching out into the community and helping young people learn the right skills to start and grow a business, and to connect to a network.
“It’s clearly the start of something – and I want the government to do all we can to get behind initiatives likes this. I’m here to listen to our new tech stars and find out what we can do to help,”he added.
The Minister also called out for civil servants from across different sectors to mentor school pupils, using the work carried out by Croydon Future Tech City as an inspiration.
