The European Parliament has passed new regulation providing a cross-EU framework on electronic signatures (eSignatures).
The move unifies guidelines and requirements on the use of eSignatures across all EU member states. It defines exactly what constitutes an eSignature, in hope that it removes companies’ trepidation at using the software across borders.
Reducing friction
It may not be sexy, but as well as saving paper and a work hours for companies, this will make business between EU companies that little bit easier
The European Parliament hopes that this move will take Europe a step closer a single electronic market, which they believe is key to economic development within the EU.
Ken Moyle, Chief Legal Officer of Docusign, a provider of electronic signature software, believes that the regulation shows the EU’s desire to help European businesses:
The European Union recognise that electronic signatures are safe, secure, and legally binding helping to speed up business transactions every where in Europe.
