StreetHub is a platform for independent shops to offer click and collect services without needing to build their own system.
Retailers provide their location and product list, and shoppers can find out what’s in the shops near them, reserve it online and pick it up in-store.
Right under your nose
The service also makes it easier for consumers to discover unique products and cool shops.
You select your chosen neighbourhood and get a selection of homeware and fashion from local shops.
Reversing trends
85% of the biggest 20 clothing and homeware retailers offer ‘Click & Collect’ services – but fewer than 2% of independent ones do.
And in September 2013, high street footfall was 2.7% lower than a year ago, falling sharply from a 0.6% decline in August.
Co-founder Mandeep Singh believes these facts are linked:
Click and Collect has been shown to increase footfall at bricks and mortar retailers and also increase the amount that shoppers spend.
Put simply, it brings in more customers. Shoppers love it because it’s easy and convenient.
Helping hand
It’s also a reversal of the effects advancements in technology are normally seen to have on retail.
For once, this isn’t about technology being responsible for the decline of the High Street – we’re using technology to get people back into local, independent shops.
Back in August, StreetHub took part in the Tech City News Elevator Pitch competition.
