Welsh startup demo

Several Welsh tech startups, part of Ideas.fund, pitched their products to an audience at TechHub Swansea.

Following several months of mentoring, the winning seven startups – Go2GP; The Booking Factory; RateSwitch; Cut A Deal; Seekrs; TAXO’d; and Doopoll – demoed their offering to a room full of investors and venture capitalists.

Matt Warren, a fellow director of TechHub, Tim Morgan and Paul Harwood, said: “We set out to find amazing teams or individuals with tech ideas in Wales or prepared to base themselves here, and take them through to growth, and today is a crucial part of this process.”

Startup competition

This week saw the launch of ‘French Tech Ticket Season 2’, a competition seeking to find talented entrepreneurs with startups in either early or growth-stage phases.

The competition, open to startups from all over the world, will offer each of the 70 winning teams € 45,000 in funding.

Additionally, winning teams will get 12 months of hosting in a French incubator.

Competition winner

Love The Sales, an e-commerce startup, has Eyetease and Verifone media’s competition.

The startup has walked away with a £160,000 digital ad campaign.

Stuart McClure, co-founder of Love The Sales, said: “To win the competition is amazing – it’s a real honour to have been chosen. When we spotted the #TeaseLondon competition we were intrigued by the opportunity. It was a hugely generous prize. We saw huge possibilities in this advertising format – the targeting capabilities are fantastic and we are very focused on the use of data to make every individual’s experience of our site tailored. It was a perfect fit.”

Richard Corbett, founder and CEO of Eyetease, commented: “As an entrepreneur who understands how difficult it can be to launch a new product into a competitive marketplace, #TeaseLondon was a great opportunity for us to see how we can help the next generation of startups! Love The Sales are solving a real world problem and we couldn’t resist their story.

“As a young working father, Stuart McClure needed to make every penny count and relied on buying sale items to provide his family with the things they needed most. There was nothing quite like it at the time, so Stuart and co-founders Mark Solomon and David Bishop developed a platform to help others shop smarter,” he added.
