Here’s your weekly round up of news about startup competitions, awards, co-working spaces, accelerators and other exciting things happening in the UK tech sector.
MassChallenge 2016 accelerator
MassChallenge has announced the 100 finalists for its 2016 UK accelerator programme, due to be held in London this autumn.
According to a statement, 86 teams of the 100 selected participants are from the UK.
UK-based MassChallenge CMO Diane Perlman, said: “London has been and will continue to be an attractive and innovative ecosystem that draws the top startups from all over the world. It shows what we believe, which is that the UK is one of the best places in the world for innovation. Ideas, skills, and ambitious minds will always flourish here as long as there is a supportive ecosystem in place. We’re committed to providing that stability and access.
“The 100 high-impact startups that will be entering our 2016 accelerator, whether they are from the UK or anywhere else in the world, have one thing in common: the desire to solve real-world problems that can have a huge impact on our economy and the world,” Perlman added.

Entrepreneur First expands
London-based investor Entrepreneur First has announced its expansion to the US.
Its new investment team will be launching operations stateside in hope of building an investor network consisting of venture capital investors, syndicates and angels.
Matt Wichrowski, head of investments at Entrepreneur First, said in a blog post: “My mission will be to provide our teams a highly curated view of the most relevant investors and tailored guidance for their unique fundraising needs. And my hope is that this upfront effort will significantly reduce the time and energy drain for our founders.”
Entrepreneur First’s US expansion comes after it opened an office in Singapore earlier this year.
2017 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards
This year’s awards, in association with techUK, are now open for nominations.
Entries will be accepted until 3rd October, with the awards ceremony taking place in London on 9th February next year.
SFI Awards voting open
The inaugural SFI Awards, launched by the team behind Mortgage Introducer, has opened its voting process, enabling readers to vote for the ‘Technology-led Lender of the Year’.
Winners will be selected by a team of experts from Specialist Finance Introducer, Mortgage Introducer, Property Wire and an independent panel of judges.
Voting will close on 9th September.
