Tended, Lincolnshire-based safety technology startup, has raised £2.4 million funding, bringing the company’s total funding raised to £4.4 million.

The latest funding round was led by existing investor Blackfinch Ventures, with participation from early-stage European VC firm Basinghall Partners, UKRI, and many industry-specific angel investors.

The company intends to use the funds to support growth and facilitate further research and development of their safety culture solution.

Tended’s CEO and founder, Leo Scott Smith, comments: “Every company has its own unique set of safety challenges. Interventions such as training and processes only go so far as to improve safety. We’re helping companies uncover and understand the underlying influences of unsafe actions and provide the resources to help them change those behaviours.”

How was Tended born?

Tended was founded by Leo Scott Smith in 2017 after encountering his own personal safety challenges.

Leo spent his time volunteering at a charity supporting children in Nepal’s poorest communities. After the 2015 earthquakes, Leo found himself often alone in some of Nepal’s most remote areas.

Facing dangerous situations daily, he saw personal safety in a different light and was inspired to create a reliable safety solution. Thus, Tended was born.

Improving employee safety and site efficiency

Tended creates wearable safety solutions that are used across industries, including construction, manufacturing, utilities, and logistics, to improve employee safety and site efficiency.

The company combines wearable technology with behavioural psychology to transform safety in high-risk working environments.

Using psychometrics, Tended uncovers powerful insights into an organisation’s safety culture and offers valuable recommendations and resources to drive positive behavioural changes.

By addressing the underlying influences of human behaviour and making safety culture improvements, Tended aims to prevent 95% of workplace accidents.

The wearables act as reinforcement, helping to promote safer behaviours by alerting employees before entering a hazardous area or unsafe zone.

The UK company already counts industry leaders, such as Siemens, Rolls-Royce, Network Rail, Unilever, and Babcock, as its customers.
