£100,000 of awards are up for grabs as part of the Urban Prototyping Festival at Imperial College London.
Over 300 developers architects, artists and tech specialists will be at the UP Festival, exploring how digital technology can have a role in shaping our cities
Running from 8 April to 26 June, the festival will team up entrepreneurs, idea makers and innovators with big businesses. As part of the events inventors can win a share of £100,000 by tackling how to harness the Internet of Things and the mobile internet.
The prize money will then be used as seed funding to turn their ideas into a business proposition – with the help of mentors including Intel.
WITH A TRIP TO CHINA
Competition winners will also receive a trip to Shanghai from the GSMA – which represents the interests of mobile operators across the globe. In China, winners can present their ideas to a Smart City Forum, leading mobile operators and as part of a showcase of the GSMA’s Connected City exhibition.
The theme for this year’s UP Festival is ‘Digital Innovation to create resilient environments, economies and communities’
Other events taking place at UP festival include:
A Hackathon between 19 and 21 April, which will challenge innovators to create technologies for the capital’s economy or community. £1,000 prizes will be available to six individuals that the Technology Strategy Board think could build prototypes to take to an exhibition at Digital Shoreditch. Intel will also give £3,000 to the winning teams.
A Conference between 8 and 12 April held at Imperial College bringing together speakers including Professor Brian Collins, Chair of the Sustainable Network + to debate how technology affects urban environments.
And Workshops during April, from Intel and Hellicar & Lewis. Plus festival sponsor Raspberry Pi will be helping finalists make prototypes of their ideas.
The UP Festival is funded by Sustainable Society Network+, NEMODE the UK Research Council (RCUK) Digital Economy Programme and led by Imperial.
