Plans for ‘microbusiness utopia’ unveiled in IPSE manifesto

As we head into the political party conferences in the coming weeks, a new manifesto has been unveiled outlining what is needed to support the increasing number of self employed workers in the UK.

Announced by the association for Independent Professionals and the Self Employed, the manifesto ‘Britain’s Secret Weapon’ lists a number of policies, including the appointment of a Minister for Self-Employment and increases the availability of flexible office space.

The announcement comes a week after the Coalition for the Digital Economy released their manifesto, which has been backed by over 200 VCs and founders.

Tech manifestos

While the IPSE manifesto is targeted at all self-employed workers in the UK, it is particularly relevant to the tech industry due to the substantial number of freelance employees.

The manifesto calls for the Government to “protect self-employed people from the scourge of late payment” and “support the thousands of young people who want to be their own boss”.

It echoes the Coadec manifesto’ sentiments as it also calls for a tax system that helps entrepreneurs.

‘Unleash the full potential’

Simon McVicker, Director of Policy and External Affairs at IPSE believes that policy “should be supporting those who take control of their own destiny”.

In our manifesto we outline the measures Government needs to take in 2015 and beyond to unleash the full potential of Britain’s independent professionals.

Latest figures have shown that 4.59m Brits are now self-employed which accounts for over 15% of the workforce.
