Owl hackable effects pedal smashes funding target

Your band sucks. But with this pedal, it will suck less

The OWL programmable effects pedal has pushed past its modest £8,000 funding target by a massive 400% after a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign.

The Hoxton based start-up have managed to reach all of their stretch goals and now have £33,641 to play with to make their hackable pedal for musicians and coders alike the best it can be.

The open source, open hardware project will put musicians in the driving seat of their sound by allowing them to tinker with the pedal’s brain, making it an incredibly versatile tool for creating audio effects.

Downloadable patches

The open source nature of the project means that musicians will be able to download patches created by others and load them onto the pedal, drawing on the growing community of audio hackers already hard at work building sounds from the ground up.

For those who wish to go deeper, effects can be developed and loaded on to the ARM Cortex M4 chip with a bit of C++ and no hardware-specific knowledge.

Owl simulator

With the cross-platform Owl simulator app, you will be able to preview sounds and debug them on your computer or just generate your favourite sound during a recording session at home.

Stretch Goals

Stretch goals that have been reached include stereo output, a memory extension and an LED on the on/off switch for a bit of visual feedback. So, all you budding open-source musicians of the future, your prayers have been answered!
