Tech trade body relaunches to connect clusters across Britain

Tech UK, a private sector funded trade body launches today, with the aim of growing Britain’s tech sector by another 545,000 jobs.

The association started 11 years ago and was previously known at Intellect. It has rebranded and relaunched to meet the needs of the rapidly changing tech sector across the UK.

Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable, launched techUK which will focus on trade and export, infrastructure, security and skills.

TechUK will support Code Club to secure funding and volunteers to set up coding clubs in schools across Britain. It’s hoped the Code Club initiative will inspire the next generation of coders and tech entrepreneurs.

Commenting on the launch of tech, UK Vince Cable said:

techUK will be at the forefront of building our relationship with an industry that employs around 1.3 million people across the UK

Speaking to Tech City News, a spokesperson for tech UK explained the body has adapted to the growth of tech startups across the country.

They now count over 500 SMEs among their members as well as larger more established firms including Google, IBM and Microsoft.

The bridge between government and industry

julian_techUKTech UK will offer access to finance, seed funding and mentoring between large corporates. They also plan to better link the government and the tech industry from across not just London but the rest of the UK.
