Mustard Seed has launched a new London-based £25m fund to invest in tech for good across the UK and abroad.
Mustard Seed was born out of a pitch competition in 2013, after its two co-founders Henry Wigan and Alex Pitt noticed a gap in the market which they believed needed to be addressed.
“Too many strong founders with brilliant, noble ideas fail to take off because both capital and resources – industry expertise or commercial introductions – don’t reach them at the very early stage,” said Alex Pitt, incubation director.
The firm, which claims to see more than 1,000 ventures every year, has already invested in What3Words and Winnow Solutions.
It has also invested in e-commerce fashion retailer Beulah, which provides an alternative route to exployment for women who were previously sex trafficked and Mush; a new app which helps foster connections and meetups among new mums.
Additionally, the fund says that 55% of the ventures it has funded to date were founded by women.
