The Minicabit cab comparison service has won a contract to deliver its services at Heathrow airport.
Rather than joining the likes of Uber in tempting on-demand, inner city bookers, the Minicabit app enables users to compare and book private minicabs across a network of 650 operators nationwide, specialising in long distance journeys.
Amer Hasan, former global head of apps and internet partnerships at Vodafone, and CEO and founder of minicabit, said: “The demand we have already received highlights the need for minicab services both to and from Heathrow and we have witnessed a great response from travellers across the UK, from locations as far as Newcastle, Plymouth and Lancaster.
“It is great to see companies like Heathrow embrace new digital services and collaborate with fast growth businesses like Minicabit and for the several hundred mini-cab firms in our UK-wide network there are strong opportunities to benefit from the partnership and enhance revenues.”
Since it was founded in 2010, the company has attracted backing from Telefónica’s Wayra Fund, along with Seedrs and investor syndicate Angels4Angels.
The company already works with London City Airport and the O2 Arena, and is also now accepting Barclays Pingit payments.
Hasan added: “Given one in four of our bookings still entail the customer paying cash to the driver, offering Pingit will further enhance our app’s user experience by making it even easier to pay via your mobile. By innovating across our web and mobile platform, whilst partnering with major brands like Barclays, we aim to increase the value of our service to customers and boost revenues for the several hundred mini-cab firms in our UK-wide network.”
