Leeds-based online sports network Pitchero lands £3.1m Series A

Leeds-based Pitchero, which provides tools to allow sports organisations to create their own website, has closed a £3.1m Series A round.

The firm drew support from leading investor ICM, a global fund manager which invested in exchange for a minority stake in the business.

Mark Fletcher, CEO of Pitchero, commented on the raise: “We want Pitchero to be the network that allows clubs to grow participation and engage the next generation of sports stars, and this new investment will strongly help us towards this aim.”

Founded a decade ago, the company now claims to service over 70,000 sports teams including hockey, netball and cricket and is looking to expand to other team sports.

Fletcher told TechCrunch: “We wanted to connect players, parents and coaches together on one platform making communication and organisation easier.

“We soon found providing each club with a website, creating small online communities for each club, then connecting each club website via fixtures and league tables was the way to go,” concluded the CEO.
