Nanny sharing platform Koru Kids has raised £600,000 in Seed funding from investors including Rocket Internet’s VC arm Global Founders Capital.
American VC 7pc Ventures, Gumtree founder Michael Pennington – who recently invested in LegalTech startup Juro’s Seed round – and Entrepreneur First’s two co-founders also invested in the round.
The startup will seek to disrupt the childcare industry by helping parents to find and share good quality nannies.
Speaking about the platform, Rachel Carrell, the founder and CEO, said: “It isn’t a standard online marketplace – early customers told us the last thing they wanted was pages of profiles to trawl through.”
Once families looking for a nanny are matched using the platform’s proprietary algorithm, Koru Kids will deal with the appropriate contracts, payroll and payments.
Pennington spoke about his decision to back the London-based firm: “Through Gumtree I’m very aware how parents struggle to find quality childcare and nannies. Koru Kids is a great opportunity for parents to socialise their children with other children from like-minded families at the same time as reducing the cost of having a nanny.”
The service is currently only available in London but the startup is eyeing up other international markets as it claims parents in Brussels, San Francisco, New York and Wellington have already requested its services.
