Jukedeck, a company that combines artificial intelligence and music composition, was yesterday announced as the winner of the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Competition.
The London-based firm triumphed over three other finalists – freelancer management platform Lystable, urban African delivery service MAX and retail product marketing monitor Yoobic – to win the £30,000 prize.
Some 15 startups were selected to take part in the first round of the Startup Battlefield competition, presenting their ideas, products and services to multiple judging panels, comprising of tech industry leaders. The list of 15 was then whittled down to the final four.
The final panel of judges included Eileen Burbidge, of Passion Capital; Alex Depledge, of Hassle; Fred Destin, of Accel Partners; and Matthew Panzarino, of TechCrunch.
While Jukedeck took away the top prize, MAX was announced as the runner-up during the awards presentation at the end of the two-day TechCrunch Disrupt event in London.
Royalty-free soundtracks
Jukedeck generates unique royalty-free soundtracks for those looking to add music to their videos. Users select a genre, mood and duration for their track, then the service gets to work and, in a matter of seconds, creates a tune matching the brief.
Users also have the option to tweak the tempo and instruments used to make sure the track suits their video project.
So far, the service has been used for videos by Google, the Natural History Museum and various YouTube creators.
Previous victories
Yesterday’s success in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield wasn’t the company’s first competition victory – in December 2014 Jukedeck won the LeWeb startup competition, while in April 2015 the team won Pitch@Palace.
On top of this, in August 2015, WIRED named Jukedeck as one of the 100 Hottest European Startups.
