IT salaries in UK ‘grew 2.8% in 2015’

Pound

The salaries of those in the UK IT sector increased an average of 2.8% in 2015, the Hays UK Salary & Recruiting Trends 2016 report has revealed.

According to the report, which analysed salary data from Hays job listings, job offers and candidate registrations, a third of IT employers awarded their staff pay rises of over 2.5% of their annual salaries.

James Milligan, director of Hays Information Technology, said: “Economic confidence is fuelling optimism within the IT sector as we go into 2016 and staff are reaping the rewards, with many enjoying high salary increases.”

He went on to suggest activity in the sector will pick up next year, with organisations updating their IT systems as they launch new projects and chase growth.

Moving on

While some 71% of IT employers increased salaries this year, 63% of IT professionals plan to move jobs in 2016.

Almost a third said they plan to move jobs over pay, while 30% said they plan to move on because of a lack of career opportunities.

“IT companies face an alarming number of staff departures next year as employees move on in search of even better salaries and career progression, prompting an escalation in the war for talent which is already raging in the IT sector,” said Milligan.

He concluded employers will need to act quickly to secure talent for the upcoming year and the challenges it will bring.
