Wordpress host WP Engine gets $23m to fuel European expansion

Texan startup WP Engine, which recently opened its first office in London, has secured $23m in funding to fuel its growth across the rest of EMEA.

The company manages back-end operations for enterprise WordPress users, like Uber, and it is currently working with more than 300,000 websites and apps in 128 countries. WordPress itself now powers some 23% of the global web.

The C-1 round, led by North Bridge Growth Equity and representing a doubling of its investment in the company, brings total VC funding to $41.2m.

Heather Brunner, CEO of WP Engine, said:

“We are thrilled that North Bridge has increased its commitment to WP Engine’s growth and success, and is recognising our ability to quickly scale globally. The last year saw amazing growth for WP Engine: we doubled the size of our team, opened our London and San Antonio offices, and launched innovative new products through our Labs. This funding will help us maintain that momentum and enhance our ability to invest in customer experience excellence, new innovations and better serve our growing roster of global customers.”

WP Engine has recently partnered up with Tech City News to support the Week in Tech video series.
