Oxford-based Semmle raises $8m as they set up permanent US office

Business analytics platform Semmle has raised an $8m Series A investment round that will help them set up a permanent US base and release a new cloud platform.

The Oxford-based company runs a B2B platform that helps developers and businesses lower software development costs and speed up production.

The investment was led by Accel Partners and is their second investment round after a $2m round in late 2011.

Cut the costs

Software development and IT projects notoriously over-run and go over-budget. Semmle brings transparency to the development process and helps all involved parties track projects so that they are completed on time.

It lets developers and managers analyse the software development process, with the goal of reducing production and maintenance costs.

The business was founded in 2006 by Oege de Moor, a professor of computer science at the University of Oxford. It now boasts a number of high profile clients including Citi, Credit Suisse, NASA and Dell.

Crossing the Atlantic

de Moor explains that “it’s impossible to understand the health of a software project without the right tools”.

The Semmle platform is the only product that provides comprehensive, actionable feedback about project health to everyone involved in the process, from developers to executives.

Semmle now plans to establish a permanent US office and develop a cloud product to provide access to its platform to a wider range of companies.
