London-based miPic, a startup which operates a photo marketplace, has raised £1.3m in Seed funding from Sage Technologies.
The company was founded by architect Carl Thomas in a bid to make art, photography and design accessible to the masses.
MiPic enables users to print, buy and sell their pictures online.
“We all create images that have the potential to be hung at a gallery, sold at a retailer or sent as a gift to a loved one,” said Thomas, the founder and CEO. “Our mission is to empower people to be creative, earn money by simply sharing a picture or shop awesome images as beautiful art and design products from each other, flipping traditional retail on its head.”
Michael Boocher, head of investment strategy at Sage Technologies, added: “Carl left his career as an architect aiming to prove that the best means of achieving happiness is by doing what you love and following your passion. This sentiment serves as the foundation of miPic, Carl has created a platform to allow creators to do the same through their art by giving them access to a global marketplace.”
“I’m proud to welcome Michael to the board of directors,” Thomas added. “Building miPic is a dream come true and I can’t wait to see how far we can take this brand and this platform.”
