Judo grabs £6m and picks up KFC as client

Mobile payments platform Judo has raised £6m in funding and announced it has picked up KFC as its newest high-profile client.

The London-based startup lets clients securely process card payments on mobile devices. Like some of its competitors, Judo also provides an API which helps merchants integrate the system seamlessly.

The platform last year partnered with coffee chain Harris + Hoole to launch an app that allowed shoppers to pay for the food and drinks through their phone. The app won Retailer of the Year at the Payments Awards 2014.

New markets

The investment, led by Route 66 Ventures, will be used to grow the startup’s team as it looks to expand into new markets and territories later this year.

Judo’s platform allows for direct integration with company’s existing apps and websites so that shoppers aren’t taken away to third party services.

CEO and founder Dennis Jones believes that Judo’s seamless integration can help it win over new clients and expand:

“Consumers are deterred from using apps with a clunky experience, we’re looking to make this seamless.

“We’re incredibly proud of our work with our merchant partners and continue to find innovative ways to enable these businesses to capture and serve their loyal customers on mobile channels.”

KFC says the partnership with Judo should lead to higher transaction completion and increased loyal customer satisfaction.
