Hackajob, an online recruitment platform, has raised £400,000 in seed funding in a round led by Downing Ventures.

The former Elevator Pitch winner, which uses a unique matchmaking algorithm to match candidates with jobs tailored to their skills and expectations, has raised £500,000 to date.

“We’re building a completely unique and original dataset that will have a significant impact on companies’ hiring process, improving quality and time to hire. With the tech scene growing in London and across Europe, companies are now looking for innovative ways to source, screen and hire talent – our platform provides this solution.

“Our vision is to democratise other industries as well and give talented individuals from any background, in any domain, a fair chance, not just software engineers, although right now our focus is on technical talent. One’s background should not influence the job they can get – we believe our platform could fundamentally change recruitment and be a part of a movement to rebuild it from the ground up,” added Mark Chaffey and Razvan Creanga, the two co-founders.

The Hackajob team says it hopes to eventually democratise the recruitment process and is currently exploring how artificial intelligence could be used to identify traits and patterns among successful candidates.

Matt Penneycard, head of Downing Ventures, added: “Hackajob is addressing an urgent need in a very fast-growing market – technical talent recruitment. This is a big market opportunity and the team have demonstrated that they can execute extremely well. We are very excited to be backing Raz and Mark as they continue to change the face of the technical recruitment market.”

The round also drew support from the London Co-Investment Fund, setup by the Mayor’s Office.
