London fintech startup Curve has raised $2m in a Seed Round including investment from Speedinvest, Seedcamp and the Mayor of London’s London Co-Investment Fund.
A number of notable individual investors also participated in the round, including Taavet Hinrikus of TransferWise, Ricky Knox of Tandem, Ed Wray of Betfair and former members of the Google Wallet team.
Curve, which is currently in closed beta, is secretive about the nature of its product offering, but its website reads: “Reimagining the card: Meet your next generation of payments after the trusted bankcard.”
In a statement, the company explained its product will “sit in the intersection between mobile payment systems such as Apple Pay, and that of the traditional bank card”.
Curve CEO Shachar Bialick told Tech City News: “At Curve, we’re focused on building a product that will bypass the issues that currently hinder mobile payments adoption, and are thrilled to have attracted the backing and commitment from our incredible set of investors.
“We’re using the funds to further grow our amazing team, alongside developing the product with our users.”
The startup, founded by three INSEAD MBA graduates, is aiming for a full launch early next year.
Its advisory board includes Stefan Klestil, a partner at Speedinvest; Tomer Michaeli, co-founder of fintech startup Fundbox, which has raised $100m to-date; and Adrian Kamellard, former CEO of the UK Payments Council.
