Gojimo, an app that helps students with exam preparation, has raised $1.8m (£1.2m) in funding.
The participants in the round included Robin and Saul Klein of Index Ventures, Deborah Quazzo of GSV Advisors; and Firestartr, a seed-stage investment platform.
The remaining funds were raised on the crowdfunding platform CrowdBnk.
Gojimo founder George Burgess said: “We’re delighted to have investors like Deborah Quazzo join the round – her support shows we’re making a real impact in the EdTech space. We were equally pleased to see how well crowdfunding can work in the education space.”
Uptake
Burgess created the app four years ago when he was 17 years old. It provides over 180,000 quiz questions for all major GCSE and A Level subjects, as well as the 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance and International Baccalaureate.
The app has become a popular revision tool, with over 300,000 UK students using the app in May as part of their exam revision.
“We are amazed by the reception Gojimo has had from British students. Its success proves that students are looking for modern methods of exam preparation that complement or replace their physical books and practice papers,” said Burgess.
He went on to say the new funding will be used to further develop the app, add premium products and services, and continue to expand Gojimo’s marketing efforts to reach even more UK students.
Recognition
Earlier this year, Burgess won the Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 award at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, plus the Digital Achiever of the Year accolade at Futurebook 2015.
