Dragon-backed Spacious raises $810k to find office space for startups

Property tech startup Spacious has raised a $810k (£500k) seed round to help startups rent office space in London.

Founded in January, the online marketplace was launched by former special advisor to David Cameron Rohan Silva, Tushar Agarwal, and Tom Watson.

The investment was led by Spire Ventures (formerly Hamilton Bradshaw Real Estate), Dragon James Caan and Faisal Butt’s venture capital firm.

A large number of high-profile investors were also involved in the round, including venture fund Seedcamp, founder of Ometria Ivan Mazour and cofounder of Streetcar (now Zipcar) and Lovespace Brett Akker.

Spacious London

With Spacious, entrepreneurs and startups can search for offices to rent by budget, location, size and type.

The startup launched with five Tech City properties and now boasts 350 spaces across London with over 1,500 startups using its services.

Initially incubated by Entrepreneur First, it describes itself on its website as a platform “set up by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs”.

Vetted properties

Cofounder Tushar Agarwal says that the trio set up Spacious because “there is no single resource to help startups out”.

That’s why we set up Spacious – we personally vet every space on our site and only feature those perfect for startups.

Dragon Caan is also positive about the company’s prospects:

The Spacious team are exactly the type of Founders we have always invested in.

With our backing they can now hire more talented people to take the business to new heights.

During his time as a special advisor at No. 10, founder Silva was one of the driving forces behind the Tech City initiative.
