London-based HealthTech startup Thriva has raised £1.5m in Seed funding.
The company drew support from Alex Chesterman, the founder and CEO of PropTech firm Zoopla; Simon Franks, the founder of LoveFilm; and Taavet Hinrikus, the founder of TransferWise.
Early stage venture funds Seedcamp, 500 Startups and the London Co-Investment Fund also participated in Thriva’s Seed.
Thriva wants to make it easier for people to monitor their health and access their data at any given time.
CEO Hamish Grierson said: “In five years time we’ll look back and think it’s ludicrous how little most people knew about what was really happening inside their bodies. We’re motivated by a simple view: That the world would be a better place if more people felt it was OK to know their bodies.
“Your blood can tell an amazing story about your health. Our mission is to ensure that understanding and tracking your biochemistry becomes as normal as counting your steps or jumping on the weighing scales,” added the CEO.
The startup offers a single finger-prick blood test that can be done at home and the results are made available within 48 hours.
Chesterman spoke about his decision to back the firm. “We’ve been impressed with Thriva’s rapid growth in the first 12 months and the high customer uptake of subscriptions to Thriva’s Baseline tracking product. We are excited to be supporting Thriva and the vision the team has of taking health tracking to the next level and putting proactive health within the reach of everyone,” he added.
Carlos Espinal, managing partner at Seedcamp, said he believed the future of medicine would involve a combination of convenience, transparency, approachability and access to care and commented on how Thriva fit into this vision.
“We backed the Thriva team because their focus is on helping consumers to feel it’s okay to know their bodies. Put simply, they’re making it OK to know, by ensuring it’s easy to track insights on your insides and how that can improve your life,” he concluded.
