Did UKIP forget to register their website? [Updated]

It looks like the hype around the general election might have been a little too much for the United Kingdom Independence Party.

It appears Nigel Farage’s UKIP might have forgotten to pay for their website hosting. Anyone visiting the political party’s website this morning will only find the picture below, a 123-reg branded static page with ukip.org written in the top left corner.

What happened?

A Whois search for ukip.org shows that the website does appear to be registered. It shows the account having been updated yesterday and registered until March 22, 2016.

According to Buzzfeed’s Siraj Datoo, a UKIP spokesperson has said they aren’t entirely sure they had registered and that they we’re looking the problem.

We can only imagine UKIP will fix the problem soon. A website might be important in the lead up to May…

Updates to follow.

Update: A UKIP Spokesman has told The Independent: “We have had a technical problem with the website overnight, it is being worked on currently and will get it back up as soon as possible.”

Update 2: The UKIP website is now back up.
