Wirecard whistleblower launches startup to flag corporate wrongdoing

Ever since Pav Gill blew the whistle on corrupt payments company Wirecard he has wondered why it fell to him to expose Germany’s largest case of corporate fraud.

“What was the bigger purpose behind it?” he says. Now, the Singaporean lawyer believes he has found the answer to that self-reflection with a new startup for whistleblowers to securely and confidentially voice concerns.

Founded by Gill and longtime colleague Ryan Dougherty in 2023, Confide has launched this week offering encrypted channels and audit trails for corporates to address internal complaints before they become a public problem.

The idea stems from his own experience of being forced out of Wirecard for trying to investigate internal complaints of suspect payments. He then turned whistleblower, providing crucial documents to the Financial Times for its investigation that led to Wirecard’s collapse in 2020....
