Facebook for families, not! Kin launches with £2.3M, highest pre-launch raise in Europe

Originally, social media platforms were supposed to be a new way to connect with friends and stay in touch with family. However, most of today’s major social media platforms primarily cater to marketing needs instead of promoting rapport and companionship. UK-born Kin is a new kind of social media platform, and to be precise; it’s a ‘private social network app’ for families.

Based out of London, Kin is announcing its official launch after raising a notable £2.3 million in a pre-launch funding round. It was founded back in September 2019 by co-founders Michael Collett and Matt Blom. In a conversation with UKTN , the company’s CEO and co-founder Michael Collett reveals more about the startup, how it’s different and much more. 

Kin is no Facebook, for a good reason

Kin is clearly a service meant for families but how is it different from any other social media apps? Collett answers, “We wouldn’t compare ourselves to Facebook. We created Kin with a simple purpose in mind: to bring families and loved ones together in the present but also in the past, and the future. We wanted to provide an alternative to the traditional social media and messaging platforms that are now all about hyper-connectivity and marketing.“...
