Exclusive: AndCo gets £800,000 to connect freelancers with unused venue space

AndCo has raised £800,000 from a range of Angel investors to launch a platform which enables freelancers to find useful working spaces for a monthly fee.

Members pay £20 per month to guarantee a hot desk and secure WIFI in London’s bars, restaurants, cafes and event spaces.

The London-founded company plans to use this money to expand across the UK and develop its tech.

AndCo has partnered with 40 venues across London that have unused event space to avoid it being wasted throughout the working day. The company says it’s similar to Spacious in the US and as claims to be a cheaper alternative to WeWork in the UK.

AndCo was founded by Sanj Mahal, who used to work in the city with a number of tech startups.

CEO Mahal said: “We have been delighted by the enthusiasm for AndCo as we launch across London with many incredible venues in the capital. The establishments on our platform are natural spaces for people to come together and create a local collective.

“Working habits have changed, whether you are a freelancer or remote worker, you need space outside of the traditional office. We firmly believe our strategy, working closely with venues to provide the optimum working environment; including secure, high-speed WiFi and a members’ networking platform, will help workers find quality and cost-effective short-term desk space and generate additional buzz and revenue for each establishment,” he added.

Bill Osborne-Young is one of the Angel investors who contributed to the round.

He said: “AndCo is successfully providing low cost, bookable co-working spaces that offer a genuine alternative for the growing number of freelancers who find the current solutions too expensive and lacking quality.”

He concluded: “With the rise in demand for suitable flexible working space, while restaurants and bars sit largely empty during the day, AndCo is an exciting opportunity to maximise venues’ assets and think about space in a different way.”
