Cisco to create 200 UK tech jobs and invest $2.5m in startup accelerator

Cisco

Cisco has announced plans to create 200 new tech jobs in the UK, plus invest in a Startupbootcamp accelerator.

The announcement was made in a meeting today with the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid, at Cisco’s new Finsbury Square office in Central London.

The 200 new cloud professional positions will be at Cisco Meraki, the cloud-controlled WiFi, routing, and security provider, which will expand its London-based operations three-fold by early 2017.

Javid, said: “Cisco’s creation of 200 new high value jobs is fantastic news and demonstrates their continued commitment to the UK. The scale of Cisco’s investment in the UK is a clear endorsement of our growing digital economy and underlines that Britain is the place to do business.”

Accelerator

The multinational technology company is also to invest an initial $2.5m (£1.7m) in the UK-based Startupbootcamp.

Founded in 2010, Startupbootcamp is a network of startup accelerators that gives companies access to an international network of partners, investors and mentors.

It has eight sites in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Eindhoven, Israel, Istanbul and London and some 80% of its alumni have each received an average investment of £400,000.

Cisco’s new investment forms part of the commitment it made earlier this year to investing $1bn in accelerating UK digital economic growth.

Phil Smith, CEO of Cisco UK and Ireland, said: “We see the move to digitise every business as a strong trend in the UK, and yet there are still huge opportunities to improve productivity by further use of digital technology.”

“That is why we are so excited about the investment and growth we are making in the UK and the kinds of skills, jobs and technologies it represents with this investment today,” he concluded.
