Chivas Regal has $1m for the best social entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs come in all shapes and sizes. For some, it’s about getting their company the size of Facebook, dominating the social landscape with their shadow. For others however, it’s about the effect their business can have on the world.

Chivas Regal is on the hunt for the best social entrepreneurs out there, and has announced a $1m startup competition called The Venture to do so.

With the mantra of “Win the Right Way”, the global competition hopes to attract startups and startup ideas that will better the world around them.

What they are looking for

Applications are now open and Chivas Regal will judge applicants on five criteria: social purpose, viability, scalability, practicality, and credentials.

The startups don’t be technologically driven; they just need to have the potential to succeed and have a social impact. You do however need to be over 25 to apply.

As many as 20 startups will be selected as finalists, with at least one from every eligible country.

What happens next

In March 2015, the finalists will be unveiled and they will all be put to a public vote. The vote will decide how a $250,000 stake of the prize is distributed.

Then, the remaining $750,000 will be up for grabs at a week long Silicon Valley event in the summer of 2015.

The winner of the UK final will also receive £10,000 and access to mentoring in topics from marketing to law.

If you think you have what it takes, or have a business idea that you think could do the world some good, head to The Venture’s website to apply. You will also find all the terms and conditions.
