Barclaycard update brings NFC payments for its Android app users

NFC payments

Barclay’s credit card division has rolled out an update to its Android mobile payments app, enabling customers to pay using NFC technology.

According to TechRadar, which confirmed the news, the update should be available to Barclaycard credit card customers using its Android app in the coming days.

Customers will be able to make purchases of up to £30 using NFC payments. Some retailers will allow consumers to make transactions of up to £100, but these will require the user to insert their card pin number via the app.

TechRadar noted that Barclays had not confirmed whether the update would also be made available to iOS customers, but added that rolling out Apple Pay was still in the pipeline, despite there not being an official launch date.

It is unknown when Google’s rival service, Android Pay, will launch in the UK.
