Apple Pay to launch next week

Reports have surfaced that Apple Pay is set to launch in the UK next Tuesday with a £20 purchase limit.

Whilst Apple has yet to confirm an exact launch date website 9to5Mac.com has seen memos leaked by several retailers which claim that 14 July will be the official launch date.

Already available in the US, Apple Pay works using the same contactless technology as contactless credit and debit cards and Oyster cards.

Using the technology users can touch their iPhone 6 or Apple watch against a chip and PIN terminal to make payments of up to £20. As well as working in shops, Apple Pay can be used online with Apple claiming it will provide increased security for transactions.

So far 8 banks have confirmed that they will be part of the launch with the only major holdout being Barclays which has launched its own bPay system.

Additionally over 250,000 shops, as well as Transport for London, will be able to take the payments when they go live.

Apple will start training its UK staff to use the service on July 12, according to 9to5mac.
