Meet Shara Tochia from Fitness Freak – our startup of the week
Welcome to the third episode in the Elevator Pitch series 2.
Every week we’ll publish a 30 second pitch from 12 leading startups from across London. In this series we took the founders to the River Thames, aboard Canary Wharf’s speedboat for the most exciting pitch of their lives.
New year’s resolutions
There’s nothing worse than realising just how unfit you’ve got since you last ran.
Nothing except perhaps splashing out on a gym membership and finding yourself locked-in for a year.
Making fitness flexible
Fitness Freak lets you find and book whatever fitness classes you fancy, in your local area.
From aerobics to zumba, the website has over 7,000 per week and is growing all the time.
The site also has a magazine section, blogging on the latest fitness news and trends.
Get up and glo
Fitness Freak are taking it up a gear this week with neon lycra, sweatbands and glo-sticks.
The team are putting on their second Fitness Freak RAVE – a choreographed aerobic session to a live DJ “spinning old skool 90’s dance classics”.
Aerobic awareness
Founder Shara Tochia said the events they run themselves are great at raising awareness of Fitness Freak:
The pop-up fitness events we run are amazing fun and we’re certainly planning a lot more for the future.
Divide and conquer
The website currently gets 12,000 unique hits a month, and converts 2-3% of visitors into booking a class.
And it’s only a matter of time before Fitness Freak spreads across the nation:
We can’t wait to start running our service in other UK cities, so we’ll be spreading to places like Manchester as soon as we possibly can.
Check back next Tuesday for the next episode of the Elevator Pitch.
