Download of the Week: 1Password does exactly what it says on the tin

Each week we trawl through the internet’s jumble sale of apps to bring you a cool, new app that will make your life better.

This week’s download is 1Password, a digital wallet for your passwords, and is available on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows.

You’ve got one for Facebook. You’ve got one for Twitter. You’ve got one for your email. You probably have one for Pinterest. (Don’t lie.)

Everyone has a lot of passwords.

You either have the same one for every account and are waiting for a hacker called 4chan to post pictures of you online. Or, you have a different one for every account and are slowly going mad with the pressure of remembering them all.

1Password is a new way to solve the age old (read last twenty years) problem. It not only securely stores all your passwords in one place, but can also generate unique secure passwords for every account you have.

Hassle-free

The app can autofill your usernames and passwords when you need them, no matter what device you are on.

When signing up for a new website/service, it will also ask you if you would like a new and pretty much unguessable password and add it to your repertoire.

In a browser, all it takes it one click and your details are filled out.

You do need one master password. One password to allow you into the vault. 1Ring to rule them all.

At the touch of a finger

One of the newest developments for 1Password came with iOS8.

To fill in passwords, 1Password will now check your fingerprint to make sure you are who you say you are.

Your fingerprint is now your key to your online life. (And where better to wear that ring to rule them all. Have I lost you?)
