Welcome to the eleventh episode of the Elevator Pitch series 5!
Every week we publish a 30-second pitch from our Elevator Pitch winners.
These startups, chosen by a panel of expert judges for their potential to change the world, join an alumni group that includes the likes of YPlan, Hassle, import.io and Glow, and have to-date raised more than $86m.
In this series we took the founders on a ride unlike any other for the most exciting pitch of their lives.
Share your fare
Although there are many apps for getting a cab in London, few have a sharing economy element.
Enter, Splitcab.
Users can book a minicab fare from any airport and halve, third, quarter… their journey by sharing it with another member.
Build up loyalty points to further drop the cost.
Co-operative working
Founder Davide Machado has extensive experience running London private hire firms but realised that the value in a taxi app post-Uber could be collaboration, rather than competition.
That’s why he brought a co-operative of companies together to supply the app to their customers, which meant Splitcab was then chosen as the official app development partner of the LPHCA, the industry’s biggest trade body.
Crowdfunding a taxi co-op?
Although they’ve had offers, and now count the likes of Expedia as their partners, Machado is bootstrapping until Q1 when he hopes to drive (lol?) the taxi industry’s first crowdfund for its own co-op.
