Meet James McBennett, founder of Fabsie, our Startup of the Week.
The Elevator Pitch Series
Fabsie wants to create the next generation of ready-to-assemble furniture.
James McBennett is a designer by profession, and wants to make products that are both easier to assemble and better designed.
The Fabsie platform works by using design files which are then shared with local ‘makers’ who produce the furniture for you at a nearby facility. As each piece is made to order, customers can also easily added customised branding or logos to the furniture.
This Stool Rocks is the first in his range of products and is currently available to back on Kickstarter. We covered the project earlier in the year as part of our Kickstarted in London series.
Latest developments
- Fabsie’s Kickstarter project has reached 50% of its goal with 17 days still to go.
- The design files are now freely available for non-commercial use, and the first stool has been downloaded and made in Alberta, Canada.
- James tells us they’ve had ‘several emails from people who are not happy with normal stools saying that they are 6″6 and would like a bigger one’ and he says “easily done”
