Tech Nation has unveiled the 24 climate startups taking part in its first programme since relaunching without government funding.
The six-month programme will provide participating businesses with support in areas such as fundraising and customer acquisition.
The cohort includes startups innovating materials, developing reusable packaging and decarbonising housing.
Startups on the programme will receive support from mentors at organisations including Google X, Oxford University and HSBC.
They include Birmingham-based Furbnow, which earlier this month raised £950,000 to retrofit homes to reduce carbon emissions.
Other participating startups include electric cargo bike business Zedify and carbon-negative urban farming firm Future Greens Farms.
Tech Nation said 40% of the climate programme founders are women and that more than half the startups are based outside of London.
The climate programme has been running for three years and supported more than 100 climate tech startups, including food and goods sharing app Olio.
This is the first cohort since the Tech Nation brand was acquired by Founders Forum Group.
Tech Nation closed operations in March 2023 after losing a bid for a £12m government grant – its primary source of income – to Barclays Eagle Labs.
Founders Forum Group, the entrepreneur community, acquired the Tech Nation brand in April.
Tech Nation officially relaunched in October with a pledge to help startups on its cohorts secure a cumulative £10bn in funding over the next five years.
It is being spearheaded by Founders Forum Group CEO Carolyn Dawson.
“Whether it’s creating a new world of mushroom tech or developing new tools to help businesses plan and install renewable energy infrastructure, Tech Nation helps these businesses to grow and deepen the UK’s reputation as the home for incredible new climate development,” said Dawson.
Founders Forum is carrying over four of Tech Nation’s previous growth programmes. It will soon be launching Libra, a programme for ethnic minority founders.
HSBC Innovation Banking CEO Erin Platts said: “HSBC Innovation Banking is committed to supporting all aspects of climate tech, from early stage through to late stage.
“Tech Nation is playing a pivotal role in fostering the most innovative companies across the sector and we’re excited to empower this promising cohort of scaleups at the forefront of climate tech.”
