A London-based startup that records live musical performances with studio quality has raised $760,000 (£596,000).

Setmixer was founded in 2021 by Pascal de Mul, a long-time employee of the music technology industry, previously working as the global head of hardware partnerships at Spotify and the chief partnership officer at Deezer.

The startup says its platform lets musicians create multitrack recordings – captured in up to 64-channel quality and mixed automatically – out of live concerts.

Setmixer said it can provide artists and labels with additional revenue options by giving fans the live music experience from anywhere.

Now backed with new funding, Setmixer is working towards launching an AI-assisted mixing tool to create release-ready recordings instantly after performances.

“This milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our remarkable team at Setmixer, and it’s also a nod to the extraordinary community of artists who have played their hearts out for their fans in 7.4 million live music performances worldwide,” said De Mul.

“Our mission continues: to bring Setmixer’s live music recordings to every venue in the UK and beyond, empowering artists to share their performances effortlessly.”

The startup has been building out its library of recorded music with over 10,000 hours of live performances over the last year.

The funds were provided by Raw Ventures, which last year launched a funding initiative for media tech startups.

Raw Ventures managing partner Victoria Palatnik said: “By backing Setmixer, we support their aims to expand and reach to more venues across the UK and eventually, internationally.”

Other participants in the funding round included VGC Partners and a group of angel investors.
