Influential entrepreneur Grace Beverley has teamed up with exited tech startup founders to launch Retrograde, an AI-powered talent management system for content creators.

Retrograde is launching an AI agent that can assist creators with tasks such as inbox management, deal negotiation and other administrative tasks. It takes a 10% fee to provide its services.

Founded alongside Jake Browne, who founded and sold financing app Peblo, and Gary Meehan, founder of AI-based travel planning tool Wheretoai, the startup aims to support “underserved” content creators.

Posting the news on her Instagram, Beverley said: “I’ve co-founded a new company called Retrograde that’s on a mission to democratise the creator industry using AI, helping all creators – no matter their size – earn more from their work.

“The context you need is that over the last decade the creator industry has grown & matured massively to the point where there are now millions of creators of all sizes, and as a result it’s become too large for a one-size-fits-all management model.

The Tala founder added: “I’m lucky enough to have worked – and continue working – with some of the most incredible talent agents in the business, but there are so many creators who can’t get access to that level of support, or the 20% of income model doesn’t make sense to them due to the simplicity of their deals, or are keen to self-manage but don’t have the time/infrastructure it requires! That’s where Retrograde comes in.”

Retrograde’s website currently points users to a waiting list.

The global creator economy is valued at over $155bn and Goldman Sachs estimated this year that it could be a $480bn industry by 2027.

Since its inception, which some experts have said dates back to the early 2000s, the sector has evolved from beauty hacks and fashion and lifestyle influencers to creators across a wide range of niches like personal finance, journalism and travel.

Beverley, who is a content creator herself with over a million followers on Instagram and over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube, said she got involved with building the platform after Browne contacted her looking for feedback on the idea.
